Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone has a relaxing day with their family and friends. Hopefully, it will be a day for you to enjoy a nice meal together. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because it is a time to reflect on our lives and be grateful for our blessings. I have fond memories of Thanksgiving growing up. My parents would cook a huge turkey meal with some of my favorite foods, get out the nice silverware, and fancier dishes, and all my family would sit down for a meal together. We took our time enjoying each other's company. Looking back, it is why it's one of my treasured days of the year. Meals shared with loved ones are lost today. Everyone is so busy with day-to-day life that we forget to sit down and share a nice meal.
Thanksgiving includes some of my favorite foods. Turkey is one of them, and through the years, my husband and I have tried various recipes and methods for cooking our turkey. Last year, we tried brining it, and it turned out wonderful! We are doing it again this year and hope it turns out as well as last year. The aroma from cooking the brine mixture made our house smell so festive yesterday. It's amazing how spices can enhance the flavor of foods. I'm sharing the link for the recipe we used, just in case you want to give it a whirl.
I will close by saying, enjoy your day today. Spend time with loved ones, reflect on what you are grateful for, enjoy a good meal, and take a walk with your family. My advice as a registered dietitian for the day is don't worry about the calories you consume or the type of foods you eat. It's just one day out of the year.
I would like to thank each and every one of you for following me on my new journey. I'm grateful for you! I will sign off with a quote that I feel is appropriate for this day.
"When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault only lies in yourself." ~ Tecumseh
